| Subject: AWCAC logo revision? Fri Mar 07, 2008 11:07 pm | |
| I've heard concerns expressed that the current AWCAC logo is in some ways deficient and that AWCAC would be better served by a different logo. I don't have a strong feeling about it myself and have used the current AWCAC logo on the sidebar roster of the Stormwater Partners website. However, Anacostia watershed groups, or even the AWCAC website itself, generally haven't been using the AWCAC logo which prevents it from being more widely recognized. I invite you to post any ideas or proposals you have for a new AWCAC logo here and talk about them. Thanks. | |

| I worked with the logo they use and added a bit of color to make it a bit more visually appealing. My thinking was if they already use it, that it is established and recognized. I think it's a simple and easy to recognize logo. I also created another banner that lists the watershed groups all in one place. I think it's useful because being still new to the watersheds, I was not aware of how many groups there are or who they were. Seeing them all at once gives me an idea of how vast the watershed is and that all these people work together for a common goal even it is through individual groups based on the various rivers that flow into the Anacostia. I've placed both on the home page of my group's website. | |

| Subject: Image map for Terra's logo Thu Mar 13, 2008 10:43 am | |
| I have created an image map that can be placed into an HTML file to make Terra's map clickable. For example when one clicks on the name "Friends of Sligo Creek" on that logo, one links to the home page of Friends of Sligo Creek. The operation of this image map can be seen at http://fosc.org/AWS.htm. The HTML code can be viewed atnd copied from that location or copied from below. There is no website for Friends of Lower Beaverdam Creek yet, so that name is not a link. The image AnacostiaWatershedNetwork.png must be 498 pixels wide and 266 pixels high for proper operation of the HTML code. The relevant HTML code for this image map follows. <map name="logomap"> <area shape="rect" coords="4,103,144,137" href="http://www.fosc.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="155,103,350,137" href="http://www.neighborsnwb.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="352,103,494,137" href="http://www.eopb.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="23,138,207,167" href="http://www.friendsoflpb.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="209,138,491,167" href="http://www.ccric.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="4,168,255,197" href="http://www.BeaverDamCreek.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="271,168,446,197" href="http://www.StillCreekWatershed.org"> <!-- <area shape="rect" coords="18,198,249,223" href="http://www.FriendsOfLowerBeaverdamCreek.org"> --> <area shape="rect" coords="250,198,486,223" href="http://www.WattsBranch.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="122,224,371,254" href="http://popebranch.blogspot.com"> </map> <img src="Images/AnacostiaWatershedNetwork.png" border=1 usemap="#logomap"> | |

| My original intent was to make those names in the banner links to the group's websites, but I was uncertain how to make that possible as the site host I use requires me to set up links in a different way. And I wasn't sure how to send it to other groups so that it would still function on their site.
I am very thankful for all the work Clair put into making that banner a functioning clickable one. That's exactly the kind of cooperation between groups I was hoping to see. Where we can exchange ideas and improve on them because all of us have various fields of expertise that we can share.
So again thank you for doing that!
I could try making a banner with everyone's logo, but I'd have to resize them all smaller which would make them harder to read. On my Friends of Little Paint Branch website I instead have a separate links page where I show both the group's logo and the written web address.
Can I go ahead and list all the groups I am aware of on my site link page? Or do I need to get permission from each webmaster to add the link?
So far I've waited for permission.

| It might be good to contact the webmasters. It will help to raise awareness of your group as well. | |

| I have tried that at least twice. When I first set up the site and again later on. I used the e-mail address provide to me by MWCOG. Only one person replied. I'm not sure who runs what or if those address are the current ones. I also asked permission in my reply to the group email you sent in January. You replied to that one and I've added the two groups you listed. No other response.
That's why I was hoping this forum would get us informed and working together.

| Hi Terra, I wouldn't be discouraged. It will take some time and patience to build awareness of the site. The second Anacostia summit ( http://www.anacostia.net/workshops/summit2.html) and, more likely, the April meeting of webmasters with COG staffperson Aubin Maynard are some upcoming opportunities to build awareness. | |

| Subject: Addition to the clickable logo Fri Mar 21, 2008 12:10 pm | |
| Terra tells me that Friends of Lower Beaverdam Creek now has a website. I have modified accordingly the clickable logo at http://fosc.org/AWS.htm and have included below the modified text of the HTML file. Usually permission is never needed to link to another website from your website. Google rank is determined by the number of other websites that link to yours. The Google rank determines the order in which the matches are presented to the Google user, so webmasters love having other websites link to theirs. <map name="logomap"> <area shape="rect" coords="4,103,144,137" href="http://www.fosc.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="155,103,350,137" href="http://www.neighborsnwb.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="352,103,494,137" href="http://www.eopb.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="23,138,207,167" href="http://www.friendsoflpb.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="209,138,491,167" href="http://www.ccric.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="4,168,255,197" href="http://www.BeaverDamCreek.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="271,168,446,197" href="http://www.StillCreekWatershed.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="18,198,249,223" href="http://www.flbc.shuttlepod.org/"> <area shape="rect" coords="250,198,486,223" href="http://www.WattsBranch.org"> <area shape="rect" coords="122,224,371,254" href="http://popebranch.blogspot.com"> </map> <img src="Images/AnacostiaWatershedNetwork.png" border=1 usemap="#logomap"> | |
