I chose to use vines around the river as a recognition to the fact that Dr. Marc Imlay of the Anacostia Watershed Society has been doing invasive pulls at the Little Paint Branch park for 4 years now. It is because of his work that I became involved and was asked to help get the FOLPB group going. Invasive programs are an important part of the overall health of the river as the composition of the land around the water affects the health of the water. For example Japanese Stiltgrass gives off excess nitrogen which has been a factor in polluting the Cheasepeake Bay. Stiltgrass is a common problem along Little Paint Branch river and therefore it's important to keep it out.
The group is still in it's new stages. A meeting to discuss group formation took place in April of 2007. Our first official event took place in August 2007.
